On Saturday the 7 April my father was very ill and I had taken him to the doctor. The doctor had mentioned to me that he was very ill and had to go to the hospital. When I went Pretoria East emergency room they agreed to assist him and I had completed the forms and made the payment, even the payment for the administration fee for the hospital and as it was very busy we waited for two hours before they came back to tell me that I must pay the deposit to have him admitted before the doctor in the emergency room can see him. This was very frustrating as first they take your money make you wait for 2 hours before they tell you they want more money before they can actually examine the person ( sick 75 year old person). As I refused to pay the R ********.00 deposit I took my father to another hospital which actually provides care to sick people and not use their weak position as a reason to steal money from them.
I was told by the sister and the staff working at the emergency room, Pretoria East Hospital, Netcare that they will refund the R250,00 and the R475.00 by Tuesday 8 April 2015. Unfortunately it is the 10 April 2015 and the money was not refunded but the vouchers were banked. It is very disappointing that the doctors and hospital needs to get paid when they did not even see the patient. It would be nice if the could refund the money they took from me. It seems that it is the emergency rooms policy to make very sick elderly people pay for treatment, then make them wait for two hours and hope that they die and take their money.
