The Best
Dr Grobler has saved my live on more than one occasion. He will do his utmost to the best of his ability to the point of exhaustion to himself. As a doctor and a human being I after years of treatment consider him the best in his field. Thank you Dr Grobler.
1.0
On Friday, 19 August 2016 I had the great misfortunate of having an appointment with Dr SP Grobler.
2. I had been referred to him by a friend who claimed that he was one of the best.
3. I have been having severe stomach aches for 4 years and after many gastroscopies, sonars, scans etc I was desperate and was willing to visit aforementioned doctor for help.
4. While waiting to see him we had our first experience of the rudeness that is this doctor.
5. He was reprimanding a staff member (unknown to me) and said (and I quote) “Jy sit dit of in sy mond of in sy hol”. This was said where everyone could hear it.
6. I proceeded to his rooms and was told to lie on the bed. I asked for my husband (XXXXXX) to be with me but this was refused.
7. Dr Grobler entered the room and without knowing me or my case he proceeded to make the following comments.
7.1. What are you doing here?
7.2. Why should I help you?
7.3. You come off the street and expect me to help you.
7.4. You’ve had a problem for 4 years and now you expect me to do something about it.
7.5. I am not going to help you. Go back to the doctor that did your gastric bypass (2005). I said I didn’t want to go back to him which caused the verbal abuse to intensify.
7.6. You just a woman off the street.
7.7. How do you want me to help you if you don’t have a bloody stomach?
7.8. Stop eating and your stomach aches will stop. (I have lost 70kg so I think I know how to eat correctly).
8. He then said that he would just look at what my bloody problem was.
9. As he moved to check my stomach I sat up, told him not to touch me and left his rooms.
10. I entered the waiting to room and told my husband we should leave.
11. He was surprised and wanted to know the reason.
12. When I told him he demanded to see the doctor.
13. The receptionist stated that the doctor was busy (no one else had been in his rooms or waiting room) to which my husband replied that he would wait.
14. Eventually the doctor came to my husband and tried to force him into his office.
15. My husband stated that he wanted to talk there as he wanted everyone to hear what he said. By then there were people sitting in the waiting room.
16. My husband asked how he dared to humiliate his wife in such a way. Who gave him the right to speak to any woman like that. His wife had come for help and he had refused and humiliated her.
17. Dr Grobler’s statements to my husband were as follows:
17.1. How can you expect me to help her?
17.2. For 4 years she has had the stomach ache, comes off the street and wants me to help.
17.3. She has done nothing about her problem to which my husband stated that I had exhausted all means to address the problem. His response:
17.4. Bring me the proof that she has seen other doctors.
17.5. How sure are you that your wife did actually go for all those tests?
17.6. If he has to open me up it is going to cost a lot of money. (we do not have a medical aid but are more than capable of paying our medical expenses.)
18. To me the worst words were the ones to follow
JOU VROU WALG MY (Your wife disgusts me).
Dr Grobler is rude, bombastic, arrogant, patronising, egotistical, pompous and condescending to mention but a few.
He gives the medical profession a bad name.
This incident is unacceptable. Since I am not a woman off the street, as a mother of 3 and married for 25 years I take offense to his treatment.
I therefore object to the treatment, am offended by it and intend to do everything in my power to prevent him from treating anyone – even a woman off the street – in such a way, ever again.
