Valley Tutor Centre - Cape Town

We provide Cambridge Syllabus education to high school students, tutoring services/extra lessons to students from any school.

SYLLABUS: Those students who choose to be full time at the centre study the Cambridge Syllabus, ie. IGSCE (similar to Grade 11) and AS levels (Grade 12) which gives a University exemption in this country and overseas. A level is offered in certain subjects and can be discussed if this is a requirement. These students are able to study on their own in a quiet, supervised environment, where they can also draw on the expertise of tutors when guidance and advice is needed.

The younger students study Pre cambridge subjects along the lines of this syllabus, grounding them for integration at a later stage (grade 9/10) to begin the CIE syllabus.

an option to study at home and only come in for one on one tutoring lessons. Included in this is a programmed referred to as "reload". This is a life skills and socialising programme with other part time students.

Learners that are slower to grasp concepts are particularly nurtured in this environment, and find the one-on-one concept far less stressful. These students often lack self-confidence, through years of the school system failing them with negative reinforcement and teaching methods. It is also beneficial to the more academic students who prefer to progress at their own pace and are not held back by slower learners or disciplinary issues of bigger classes.

We find that the relaxed atmosphere encourages students to achieve more because they are not pressured by their peers or short-ordered teachers. They also do not have to move from class to class, so the students accomplish more in their school day.

We try to instill in the students that the success of their results depends on them and their work ethic. They are now responsible for their own learning and what they put in they will get out. The subjects used for the Cambridge syllabus are especially designed for individual study and the students are encouraged to get on quietly with their work, while still being able to ask any of the tutors for help as many times as needed. The tutors are all trained, dedicated teachers and also mark the work and set tests (60% pass rate) to test that the students have understood their work. Internal exams are also written in June and November to monitor their progress so that the student can get an idea of when he can enter for the external exams.

CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL EXAMS (CIE): These will be written either at various centres across Cape Town.

The afternoon extra lessons are open to students studying any curriculum where they can avail themselves of the guidance and expertise of tutors, who charge by the hour. We also provide tutoring to those students studying the syllabus Cambridge who would just like understanding in areas that they are not sure of. The evening classes are available to anyone who would like obtain a matric and that cannot do this during the day.
