Thank you for giving me this opportunity to write to: Yesterday I was at the Indlovu Spar, to look for scones, but I ended up buying cup cakes for my kids and a packet of sweets. I paid for them and kept the till slip with me
As I was leaving the store, I was stopped by a lady security that ordered me to open my handbag. Without any hesitation I opened my bag, and she went through my bag and came out with a packet of beechies that I had bought some time ago from Clicks. I bought two packets at the time, so the first packet was finished, and so this was the second packet. I had already opened the packet and had a bite of one of my beechies since I don't normally eat the whole. The lady asked me about these opened beechies, I explained to her that I bought them a while ago at Clicks. Instead, she called for another security to come and see these beechies. I explained the same thing to him as well. He said why didn't I tell them that I had the beechies in my bag. I told him that I had already opened and besides, there was nothing written on the entrance of the store that I am supposed to declare what I have in my bag.
The other security called another one who seem to be their supervisor. I tried to explain the same thing to him and took out other items that were in my handbag wondering why they only single out the beechies because they were also open. In my handbag, I had a used Vaseline, wipes, stapler and marking pens. I told the senior security that I need to go I didn't steel these beechies as I am working. People were starring at me as the security was screaming at me that they don't care if I was working and where I was working, they are only securities and even if they had written on the entrance that I should declare my item, I was never going to read them anyway.
I felt so humiliated and embarrassed, I regreted going to SPAR.
Luckily a gentleman who had a name tag and seem to be one of SPAR's supervisors came and just watch and listen. He pointed out to the security that it was clear that the beechies had been opened a while ago, even the paper that was covering them was no there.
That is how I managed to leave but after so much humiliation from the securities implying that I have stolen beechies.
I have been to SPAR several times and spend a lot of money also not just for me alone, but at some point with my organization, we bought food for 800 households around Hazyview. I was very upset with the treatment by the securities who don't seem to have any customer service insight. They don't even know the steps to follow before you can conclude that the item is stolen. Unfortunately, my neighbor experienced the same thing with your securities. Whether they are trying to make themselves feel important, I don't know.
Surely SPAR is a huge shop that have camera's, alarms etc. they could verify whether the item is from their shop or not.
I wish SPAR can rectify this mistake before you lose most of your customers.
We are residence of Hazyview, and therefore, SPAR is one of the supermarkets that has been there before all these other supermarkets came to the mall, now we are being pushed away by securities who are not trained to deal with people or even how to identify a suspect.
I must also mention that I have never had any problem with SPAR employees, they are all very friendly and know how to treat people especially those that are at the Bakery because I have been dealing with them quite a lot recently buying cakes for my kids.
At once I met the manager when we had a training and requesting that they provide us with lunch ( Paid) everyday. He ( the white guy) was very friendly and understood my request as a customer.
