Kagiso Trust - Johannesburg

Internally KT took the mandate of ethical and non-sectarian support to organisations seriously. It could not allow the living areas and South Africans simply to deteriorate under the joint conditions of apartheid and resistance. In some instances KT was responsible for setting up new organisations as it was not simply a funding institution. The Trust looked for ways to strengthen civil society and to fund potentially viable community projects to assist communities to become more self-reliant and independent. It became a catalyst for new development institutions and initiatives. Support was spread across a whole range of sectors: rural and urban struggles, advice centres, welfare, health and importantly, education.
