SWISS PARENTS ASSOCIATION

The purpose of the SPA is to guarantee that every Swiss child – including dual nationals – will be given the opportunity of an education in its German mother tongue at the DSJ without facing any potential financial disadvantages. The SPA’s main objective is therefore to support the DSJ by the SPA members’ own efforts in addition to obtaining financial support from interested Swiss companies and foundations in both South Africa and Switzerland. Many efforts were required both by individuals and organizations, before and after the inauguration of the SPA, which took place on May 23, 2002 at the DSJ. Less than one year later, on February 28, 2003, the first SPA project could be launched and officially handed over to the DSJ. The ‘Swiss IT Centre’ replaced, updated and

considerably enlarged and modernized the many on-line research facilities and the communication for the DSJ students and teachers in this modern and spacious Centre. This SPA assistance is highly appreciated by the DSJ. In a second phase, an important expansion of the ‘Swiss IT Centre’ was completed, inaugurated and handed over to the DSJ on October 11, 2005. Meanwhile a new project is in process: A multi-functional room that will be called Swiss Centre in the Kindergarten area. The investment by the SPA will amount to R 1.3 mio. The SPA is determined to continue to assist the DSJ with future projects.
