SOUTHERN AFRICAN AUDITOR & TRAINING CERTIFICATION ASSOCIATION - Pretoria

With the introduction of SABS 0157: Code of Practice for Quality Management Systems, the need arose for a framework under which quality management systems of suppliers of commodities and services could be assessed and audited. The first examination for Quality System Auditors was held on 19 June 1987 where 35 candidates wrote the papers. Examinations have been conducted annually since this date. Due to the interest shown in SACCQA by neighbouring and other African countries such as Zimbabwe, Zambia and Kenya, it was decided in 1992 to change the organisation’s name to the Southern African Council for the Certification of Quality System Auditors. establish the International Auditor and Training Course Association (IATCA), registration of SACCQA as a Section 21 company and the appointment of a permanent Registrar in 1996. Following the decision to register auditors from other disciplines, e.g. laboratory and environmental, and to register training course providers, March 1991 saw SACCQA change its name to the Southern African Auditor and Training Certification Association with the acronym SAATCA.
