Haenertsburg, Magoebaskloof and the surrounding area is a very diverse region in Limpopo. This area is actually the northernmost range of the Drakensberg with the highest mountain in Limpopo, the Iron Crown towering above the village of Haenertsburg. Just 6km from Cair Paravel is the village of Haenertsburg, which has restaurants, coffee shops, a pub, a gift shop and a health shop, as well as the unusually named liquor store "Mama Glug Glug" and a general store, the "Tank Trap". An ATM is available at the liquor store. The local petrol station and garage is open from 6am - 6pm every day. There is a doctor’s surgery which is open for a few hours each day during the week. Tzaneen, a bigger commercial centre, is 35kms from Cair Paravel, while Polokwane is 65kms away. Adventure sports

such as absailing, rock climbing, and white water rafting are offered in the nearby George's valley. The Ebenezer Dam nearby, offers boating, water skiing, yachting, bass fishing, sunset cruises on a houseboat and the annual Ebenezer Mile swim. There are also internationally recognized mountain bike races in the surrounding mountains and forests and there are many hiking trails. The Magoebaskloof Pass is a spectacular drive down the mountain, through the Sepekoe Tea Estates and into the sub-tropical fruit-growing abundance of Tzaneen. The historical cycad forest at Modjadji’s Kloof and the opportunity to ride on elephants are worth a visit. From Tzaneen it only takes 1.5 hours to the bushveld via the Phalaborwa gate into the Kruger Park. The trans-frontier national road, the present R71, is soon to be opened, starting in Namibia and going through the Kurger Park to the Mozambique coast.
