KOMMANDONEK GAME RESERVE - Klerksdorp

Approximately 15 kilometers from Parys and one an half hours drive from Johannesburg International Airport, is Kommandonek Game Reserve. This is a private wild life sanctuary edged by the beautiful Vaal River traveling through a range of scenic mountains. These mountains were created by a meteor the size of Table Mountain which impacted the earth two billion years ago. The impact of the Meteor caused a huge crater to form with erosion and deposition over time that created the Vredefort Dome. The crater of approximately 380km includes Vredefort, Parys and Venterskroon. The outer margins of the Dome reach up to Johannesburg, Klerksdorp, and Welkom.
