Four mechatronics undergraduates at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) - Adriane Bestic, Shuldham Peard, Ashley Naude, and Christopher Sephton - had a vision. This vision was sparked by the Green Warehouse Logistics Challenge set forth by the annual PneuDrive Mechatronics Competition (www.pneudrive.co.za). This challenge gave birth to their concept: the TetraStack. A multidisciplinary team of software developers and engineers is now working to create a third prototype design that will become a physical proof of concept. Construction is expected to begin in early 2015 with the help of Professor Khaled Abou-El-Hussein, a manufacturing expert and director of the School of Engineering at NMMU.
