Currently, aquaculture accounts for over half of the seafood consumed globally, and it is projected that this number will rise to 60% by 2030 in order to meet the growing demand for high-protein foods. However, aquaculture is not without its challenges; animal feeds for farmed fish comprise up to 60% of the production costs in commercial operations, while intensive farming is the main source of animal stress, with disease outbreaks causing up to 80% of losses.
