She is my Florence Nightingale ❤️
Dr YL Jansen is the most caring, supportive Dr I have come to meet. She always takes the time to listen and advises, with the utmost compassion and empathy. Dr you've been here for me the passed few days, while in isolation and again your loving, caring, soft-spoken voice has carried me thru. Thank you for everything. Stay blessed dear.. you are indeed an Angel

She takes her time to conduct a thorough investigation within a multidisciplinary team, explaining the findings and diagnosis so well. service
On the 25th of November, my mother Dany Magliolo had a minor stroke at her residence. She is on medical aid from Healthsquared. I took her to Greenacres hospital as this was an obvious choice. I spent two weeks in this hospital in 2011 and received the most professional service I could wish for. However, this was definitely not the case this time. I have never seen such unprofessional, uncaring staff.

Taking into consideration my mother had a stroke I got to the hospital at the emergency entrance. I expected a little urgency but was sadly mistaken. There were 3 ambulance staff members standing around smoking. I went to the staff that was asking questions about Covid. I asked for a wheelchair to get my mom out of the car. They didn't even answer my query. They pointed to the security guard. I approached the security guard who directed me back to the sister. This went on for more than 5 minutes. It was only after I was verbally abusive did we get a wheelchair. The sister on duty did the tests after asking stupid questions about covid which could've been answered dishonestly. The sister told me that it could've been a sudden drop in blood pressure that caused the temporary blindness. She stood there and misdiagnosed my mother. My mother then went into the waiting room at 6 pm and only got admitted into a ward at 12:30 am the next day.

They did an angiogram as a neurologist was not available. My mother noticed a young lady that was shivering uncontrollably for hours without any assistance. Nurses passed her without even offering a blanket. My mother was kept for observation, yet was not observed.

I wanted to get a charger for my mother for her phone so that we could have communication with her since nobody was updating me on her condition. The staff in ward E said they will come down to fetch it. Two and a half hours went by and still, no one came.

The neurologist, Dr. Jansen, was unavailable the next day as there were excuses that she was doing rounds. My mother said that the neurologist only saw her once in 4 days. Why is medical aid being paid? This is the service we expect at Livingstone Hospital. The funniest thing is that an hour after paying the excess for the MRI, my mom had the MRI. The neurologist was suddenly available. She told my mom the result of the MRI. How do you tell a woman (who is French and struggles to speak English) about the result of a stroke? My mother just had a stroke and the neurologist is telling her about what medication to take. I tried to call the neurologist several times and I got no response. The receptionist gave the neurologist the message on Friday. To date, I have not heard a word from Dr. Jansen. I got through to Dr. Britz who gave me 5 minutes of his time and told me everything that I needed to know.

Since when is it acceptable to get breakfast at 10 am with cold coffee and beans on toast.... With mielie pap on the side. The noise in the wards was loud. How is a stroke patient supposed to get rest when sisters are shouting in the wards? I phoned the ward wanting to find out the results of the MRI and the nurse wouldn't give any information to her son. The one occasion the nurse put the phone down on me.

I suggest that the doctors, nurses, and the neurologist involved should Google the Hippocratic oath and do the refresher course. Maybe google a highlights package as the full Hippocratic oath might be a bit much for you people to comprehend. I shudder to think of what our public hospitals are like.
Remember you guys have probably dealt with thousands of stroke victims. This was my mom's first. Be a bit more supportive and compassionate.
