Our Experience with Martins Funerals:

I will NEVER work with this company EVER again nor will I EVER recommend them to anyone.

On July 3rd 2021 my mom unfortunately passed away. We phoned Martins shortly after her passing to fetch her body from Linmed Hospital in Benoni. A few day's later we then had a meeting with Manny from the Rivonia Branch to make arrangements (All we wanted was for my mom to be cremated in the most cost effective coffin, as these were her wishes)

We phoned Manny on the 4th of August to find out the status of my mom's cremation. He told us that they should be finishing up her cremation today (4 August) and that he will go to the crematorium to check on everything and fetch her ashes and will then phone us the next day (5 August)

On August 5th he never made contact with us. After trying to reach him, we managed to get a hold of Ryno. Ryno informed us that my mom had infact not been cremated as they had only gotten the paperwork from the doctor that morning(august 5th).

We then contacted my mom's doctor and the hospital to enquire as to why they only gave Martins Funerals the paperwork that morning (august 5th). The hospital then informed us that Martins had only requested the forms that morning.
After countless phonecalls with both Manny and Ryno, each coming up with different stories and excuses. We then stated that we will meet them at 8am at their offices on friday the 6th of August to ensure that everything gets done correctly, as any trust that we had with Martins Funerals had dwindled at this point.

Once we arrived at the Rivonia Branch on friday 6th August, we were told that my mom would be cremated that afternoon in Rustenburg.

Well, we finally received my mom's ashed on August 12th. According to the cremation certificate she was infact cremated on the 7th of August in Rustenburg.

I have so many concerns.
Why did it take you 35 day's to cremate my mom? I understand that you are probably over worked, but really?
Why did we have to follow up with you for three days to get things done?
Why all the lies and excuses?

Seriously, you are dealing with people's loved ones. HAVE SOME RESPECT!
This is already a difficult time for families to lose loved one's, the least you can do is be HONEST, stick to your PROMISES and handle the bodies of our loved one's with DECENCY and RESPECT.

I have contacted your Zeerust branch last week and today again. Telephone never gets answered. Decided to try head office..same result phone does not get answered!

Good evening.. My name is phumzile I would like to say that am so disappointed at martins for declining my claim, I have been a loyal and trustworthy client, never have I failed to pay my cover, you have failed me big time.... Am a un happy client who had to to the elders that I can not help no burying your uncle, how I use to boost and recruit my staff to join your business.. I have recruited 3 people but after what you have done to me, I will never forget it and will never recommend your business to anyone. I have been with you guys for more then a year and never have I missed my payments... Am so unhappy was crying at work didn't even believe it that you are failing to help me... You have helped me bury my father and grandmother but failed so do right to my uncle..
