Dr Reg Thom recommends bringing your pets to the vet once a year for a health check, which is usually done concurrent to their annual vaccination. A regular health check aids in the prevention and early detection of common health threats such as obesity, arthritis and dental problems. During a health check, you can expect the doctor to give your pet a thorough physical examination to determine his/her state of health. He will check for parasites such as fleas, ticks, lice, ear mites and worms, any skin abnormalities, growths or wounds. He will also ask questions about your pet’s behaviour, eating habits and… to establish your pet’s health status. Last but not least your pet will be weighed. We record their weight in their personal file and can so monitor weight gain or weight loss over time.
