An early morning start takes you to one of the most famous World Heritage sites in South Africa – the Vredefort Dome, near Parys. This first class heritage site was created thousands of years ago by a meteorite hitting the earth. On your arrival at the launch site, you will be welcomed by your hot air balloon pilot and enjoy a warm cup of coffee while you watch the team preparing the balloon and inflating it with hot air. Mingle with the other experience goers who may accompany you as you watch in anticipation. There’s something magical about seeing the balloon’s shape rise from the earth as it inflates.
Then it’s into the basket and the ropes are released and it’s up and away you fly to where ever the wind takes you. You’ll drift at wind speed so there is little or no turbulence during flight. Pering over the edge of the basket as you rise, you might get a glimpse of what is know as the “koppies” that were created from the impact of the meteorite, or you may see the fast flowing Vaal river – you never know how far you will fly or where you are going to land … until you get there. The pilot varies the height he flies at, from treetop height to about 1000 feet above the ground, and will land in an open field.
Once you eventually land, you can toast this memorable flight with a tall glass of champagne. You will return by Land Rover to the launch site and at the closest lodge where you will feast on a hearty breakfast to end off your perfect scenic adventure. You will receive your very own certificate of your flight.
