ARUP, Durban

Durban is a sophisticated cosmopolitan city of over 3.5m people and a city known as the home of Africa's best managed and busiest port.

Arup’s award-winning Timeball Tower commemorates the tower of the early 1900s which played an important role in advising ships entering port.

The ‘Golden Mile’, developed as a welcoming tourist destination in the 1970s, provides ample tourist attractions and Arup, opening an office in 1958, contributed to many of the prestigious hotels along the beachfront and landmark office and university buildings in the city.

Today, Arup is once again active on the Golden Mile with involvement in some of the new beach nodes along the promenade.

luxury apartment buildings such as The Pearls in Umhlanga, and many of the mixed-use developments now springing up around city and province.

Arup has provided consultancy services on a number of aspects of the 2010 Soccer World Cup; and in Durban has been appointed to lead the planning and implementation of the Transportation Operational Plan for the city.

Arup are the interchange design architects on the new commuter station, which forms part of an existing rail network and is one of the main feeder stations into the new Moses Mabhida Stadium which will be hosting many of the events.
