Direction Training is owned and managed by Rod Taylor. Rod Taylor has an Honours degree in Chemistry from the University of London, a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Cape Town, and is a qualified Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). He also holds Toastmasters International’s highest awards in Communication and Leadership, and is that organisation’s highest qualified Toastmaster in Southern Africa. He is the winner of three national public speaking titles and is presently the Chief Judge for the eight English speaking countries that comprise Southern Africa. Rod is highly regarded

Rod has more than twenty years experience in line management in the process and manufacturing industries from shop floor to board level, from technical to marketing. He has been involved with communication training for twenty-five years and has been a full time professional trainer and speaker for eighteen years. His training brings broad practical experience as well as theoretical knowledge into the training room.

Direction Training was formed in 1987 to provide training in communication-based skills. Years of experience in corporate and line management had shown clearly the value and power of communication and revealed both the lack of skills and the need for training in this area. The company was formally registered in 1988.

Direction Training takes an active role in developing people, both within the corporate environment and the small business sector. It has the expertise to advance and improve its clients’ business by enabling people to respond successfully to today’s marketplace with tomorrow’s ideas.

Direction Training supports the empowerment of all of our country’s people to choose to set their own limits on their personal development and achievements. We support and value the diverse cultures of South Africa and value people as individuals.

Direction Training does not run public courses, preferring to work with organisations to provide the specific training interventions required. All training blends practical and theory according to the needs of the trainees, always providing sufficient theory to facilitate practical exercises. Our training programmes are presented using the client’s training facilities unless otherwise requested. The benefits of this are twofold; costs are contained and the client can more easily monitor the quality of the training.

Much research has gone into the development of the basic training programmes. These are modified to suit the needs of the client and the trainees. Training material is drawn from a variety of sources and incorporates the latest knowledge and technology, both in content and in training. Continual updating means that Direction Training’s programmes have particular relevance to the constantly changing situation in the new South Africa.

Rod Taylor conducts most of the training himself. When necessary, one or more of a network of associates may be used. These associates will have the necessary specialised expertise as well as a high level of training and presentation skills.
