TVD Studios - Durban

TVD STUDIOS is a black economic company based in Umlazi Township KwaZulu-Natal.

The company was founded in 1999 and was formally registered with D.T.I. (Cipro) early 2009. We have more than 30 members divided into 2 sections.

The juniors: These are school going youngsters who train and rehears after school.
The seniors: Are young adults who are full time employees of the company. Young parents and breadwinners who are salaried members through industrial and corporate theatre, event management and show business enterprises. They come from KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Gauteng and Mpumalanga but are residents of Umlazi in Durban.

African and contemporary dance, gumboot dance, free-style, drums, percussion, etc…
Our major focus: is on industrial & corporate entertainment and theatre, arts/culture & dance workshops because the above means sustainability and job creation.
Event management co-ordination from entertainment concept and theme, stage set-up and sound, professional artists’ recruitment and live acts.
Cultural and Social Investment: Beyond financial empowerment, we encourage artists (big & small) to impart their skills to the less fortunate, aspirant youngsters who look up to them, to be an asset to the collective.

WE ARE WHAT WE ARE
TVD has seen it fit to operate at this cosmos-flower beautiful, fast developing and industrious area. We realized that not all of us can migrate to the cities. Big cities are overcrowded as it is so its better that we create jobs and earn a living where we are to decentralize talent and skills.

As F.D. Roosevelt once said: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”

Our intention is to market the idea of entrepreneurship and job creation and render services of exceptional quality. We noticed a prevailing trend in the private sector of using the performing arts as a medium of instruction for employees.

It is with this spirit that we researched, developed, wrote and tuned different industrial / corporate show business concepts to sell to other companies. These productions and themes are highly entertaining as well as informative.

It is encouraging to us that we create jobs for local communities, however humble our beginnings. We are proud to say that as KZN residents, we’ve been able to deliver to the industry. As trends evolve, we benchmark, adapt and innovate in our chosen field. As creative artists we are dreamers by nature, dreamers by design BUT at TVD we dream with our eyes open.

THE GROUPE LEADER
Vukani Dlamini, artistic director of TVD is a well versed performing artist. From 1988 to 1993 he toured the world with the international musical Sarafina.

He’s been to Europe, Australia-Asia, the Far East and the U.S.A. He is a script-writer, singer, dancer, choreographer and actor with numerous recording sessions and advertising jingles under his belt. He is an ardent student of voice and drama, having undergone training under Peter Brook in Paris. He’s passion is method acting, favouring the work of Grotovski, Konstantin Stanislavski and Brecht.

Vukani has performed for King Carl Gustav in Stockholm, Sweden.
He sang in a choir with Sir Bob Geldof at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
November 1989 witnessed and performed at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Did audio back-ups and sang with O’Jays in Osaka, Japan
Performed a Royal Command repertoire for King and Queen of Belgium in Brussels.
Did audio back-ups and rap for Tupac’s poetry album in NYC
The list goes on and on...

The director is motivated, hard-working and versatile. He enjoys educating and training performers. Vukani’s mission is to unfold the artistic talent and passion that lies dormant in many youngsters, especially in the provinces. To plant young seeds that will grow to be trees that bear fruits in the future. Vukani is also a cultivated and professional individual, thanks to his exposure to diverse cultures and entrepreneurial innovations around the globe.

As we speak Vukani and TVD are adding more accolades to their portfolio, we have published Nokzen video AmaGoldigger from his new album KM IN LUV.
We have also released Mrizo who is a household name in the House music and has taken the digital world by storm with his new EP: OFF THE LOUNGE.
