Since opening our first store in 1971 in Germiston, Makro has grown immensely. Opening our first store was a milestone for South Africa – it became the first cash-and-carry store in the country making use of top-end technology for stock and sales tracking.

By 1989, five new stores had been added to the stable and MD, Mark Lamberti, had formulated a strong crew and strategy that would found and grow Massmart - a multi format major wholesale and retail group of which Makro is the cornerstone. Our flagship store, Woodmead, was built in 1993 and has since grown to become of the most popular retail outlets in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.

Fast tracking to 2011, and to the merger between Massmart and Walmart (the US based retail company operating all over the world) meant an expanded offering which we could extend to our shoppers, allowing more variety and brands at even more competitive prices.

2014 saw the release of our ecommerce platform. INCOMPETENT AND DISGUSTING SERVICE
I placed an online order for groceries due to the fact that we were all flat in bed with the flu, but have bare cupboards, so really needed this groceries. Firstly they attempted to deliver to the wrong address and then took my order back to the store. Then the same happened today with the driver telling me that he doesnt have my complete order and customer care telling me that they attempted to deliver but it was again the wrong address, despite sorting it out with the call centre. So who islying? the driver or the call center?

Secondly, my order was minus a few items. So i aid R1149.00 for my order and they attempted to deliver an order for R779. I would have to wait 10days or more for the difference. The R1149 was all the money I had for groceries. So now, not only do i not have groceries, I am out pf pocket too. If I want my total refund, then I must wait an additional 10 days or more.

This is disgusting Makro. You are making an already bad financial situation even more difficult for me. How do I explain to my kids why there is no food in the house? I do not have the extra cash to go and buy odds and ends until you sort your house out. I am fuming right now. I have already reported you to the ombudsman and should this not be resolved by Friday, I am going to Carte Blanche with this.

TOTALLY DISGUSTED AND ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS. I HOPE YOUR KIDS HAVE A GOOD MEAL TONIGHT!!!!

Delivery and poor service
I ordered a generator online. It shows delivered and I have not received it. The just keep on "escalating" my query. Really how hard can it be to trace the parcel?

Makro's service suck You will not receive your goods!
Makro's service SUCK! I have provided the correct telephone number to contact me for delivery - MAKRO re-typed it incorrect, so my my parcel was not delivered, although I have received an e-mail that it was delivered! When phoning, Molwantha and Nthabiseng,???? at ******** they do not want me to speak to a supervisor! NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! I have placed my order 26/3/2023 and have not received it up to date!

Unsatisfied with service
Shopped at makro centurion price for cat food R 144.00 on shelf on till price R 326.00 Spoke to 2 mangers 1 want to give me 1 at R 144.00 arrest at R 326.00 and other Manger want to give it to me at cost price + vat
As per customer rites the price you see is the price you pay
I phone the customer support line and they gave me head office number 011 797 0000
But there are no answer at that number

None delivery of groceries
I run a nursery school in Benoni, I ordered groceries on Saturday, it's now Thursday and haven't received them yet. So far I have received 3 boxes on 3 days one had 2 rolls of masking tape, one had dishwasher and the third had steel wool. Black Friday is NOT an excuse everyone knew about it and YOU should have prepared for it. Disgusting service.

Circular saw
I bought the machine in April 2022,it stopped working, took it to makro then they sent me to Ryobi, now makro says that I was supposed to open up the machine and check the brushes, this is the 1st time I have heard something like this, to my knowledge if a machine is under warranty the customer must take it directly to the store, if the customer opens any screws the warranty will not be valid any longer.

False Advertising and Sales People lies
So I purchased a dishwasher from Makro in August. Sales person sold it with the promise of 10% mrewards back. The sticker advertising this was also on the machine. Nowhere did it specify you had to buy it on credit or with a makro credit card. They even helped me to download the mrewards app when I was there. When I enquired about my rewards after a few days. The first response was that the dishwasher I purchased did not qualify for the 10% back. I pushed back. Then the response was. Oh you had to use your makro credit card. I am not happy. I want my 10% that I was advised I will get.

STAY AWAY FROM MAKRO!!!
My order wasn't Deli way past delivery day, after million time of calling everyday none of the consultants helped, or were even interested in helping. It is as if this something common amongst them,since they were all telling me the same thing 'we'll escalated this matter and get back to you'. I'm sick of tired of Makro and I just want my refund, that's it!.

It looks like my computer was hacked.

At Makro online I ordered a flip cover for a Samsung GalaxyS5.
Instead of the ordered item, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra back cover was delivered to me.
I reported to Makro that I received the wrong product.
According to the instructions obtained from Makro, I was required to send pictures of the received item.
So I made two pics and emailed them to Makro.

On Feb. 22, 2022, Tshepang Mokoena informed me that all pictures should be in a PDF, because on their side they were unable to open them.
I changed the photos to PDF, and on the same day they were sent to Makro.
A few days later Wandile Sibeko informed me pics are visible, but the seller needs a clear picture in pdf .

I wrote that I have no intention of taking more photos, and I won't waste more of my time to retrieve my money, and I asked Makro not to bother me again.
8.03.2020 Mr Norman Dilley wrote to me about the arrangement for collection day, but I was away.

A few days later out of curiosity about the quality of the PDF photos which were sent, I opened my attachments.
To my surprise, not the photos, but all my computer files appeared on the screen: ABSA, CAPITEC, Standard Bank, Personal, Pictures etc., which I was able to open and to see the contents of my private files.
I forwarded these attachments to my other email address and the same: not PDF pics, but my computer files are visible.

It looks like my computer was hacked, most probably by encrypting PDF (Portable Document Format), but my knowledge of computers is very limited..

I asked Mr Dilley (15.03.2020) to tell me what he sees when he opens my PDF attachments.
So far I have not received the answer.
It looks like Makro employees have access to all my computer files.

But, unannounced there were two attempts by Makro to pick up the goods, but both times I was not at home.
I have already written off these money, or flip cover, so save your effort.

BTW. I now have a bigger problem related to protection of my personal information, including access to my bank accounts.

Poor service

I purchased a Bosch battery charger online with an impression it was a battery jumper.

After receiving it I noticed it was not what I needed an immediately proceeded to the store for a return at Roodepoort.

I was then advised that I should lodge a return on my app of which I did.I took the pictures of the unused item as per request and wrapped it for collection.

I had to call several times before it was finally collected on a Friday evening.

I then got a message that it was received.

After a couple of days I called in to make a follow up but had to make a number of calls before I was told that the distributor has made a note that my item had a significant tear on its package.

I was asked to send the courrier collection sheet of which it had no comments on the state of the package.

I had to call almost everyday to get a feedback or way forward on my matter and it's been a over month now if I am not mistaken.

I would like to know if I am being funny or that's the way of treating all customers.

#Takealot give better post sales service than Makro
I bought a printer ONLINE last year in April I bought it specifically for printing sublimation on T-shirts for my business but I never got to really do this because on the third time of trying to print the colours didn't come out right from the printer I then left the whole idea of doing sublimation because I felt like I'm not yet sure how it's been done maybe I bought a wrong paper. The ink that came with the printer is still full. I have another printer that i used for other prints so i didn't really use this much.

In December I then tried to print some artwork for a photoshoot that I was doing. This printer then printed the red pink instead red, yello also printed in a lighter version of Pink. I emailed makro but i wasn't getting good service ss i do from #Takealot I then took the printer to Makro cuz they were refusing to come and pick up the printer. When I got there, they told me the firms are closed and they will only be able to attend to the printer in January i must return with it cos if it breaks they won't be responsible for it. I refused and I told them I'm not going back with this our printer back to northwest you see what to do with it, if you don't want to assist me call your manager. There was a lot of back-and-forth until somebody said it's fine they will take it in and that's when I started communicating with the lady called in Mpho from Online department. I've got back the printer we tested it and pictures also still came out very bad.

Again I communicated with Mpho and tried to get her to collect the printer and fix it. She disappeared and never contacted me again on emailing again and again Makro Crown mines told me to contact vaal Makro I told them I told them I ordered online so they cannot tell me to contact this branch or that. They must just send their Courier to come and pick up the the the printer they told me they cannot do that I may just go because I bought it from Vaal and must go and drop it off at Vaal Makro. now my question is why would I buy from Makro Online and then have to deal with a specific shop when I'm staying so far away in Northwest why are they making things difficult for us by attaching an online shop with a specific shop and then making us suffer because now these people are rude they don't care about customers and the guy who called me in from Makro Vaal, he even told me I've been using this printer for nearly a year and now i wanna return it. He said I must see to it and and delivery to them so that they can see what's happening.

This guy, knows no one will reprimand him. He knows he has hus job n pay month end hense he can say anything to me as he desires. He knows even if i complain, i won't get help because he is the only help i have. Is this how Makro Operates? Very bad customer service.

Defy 15kg twin tub washing machine
????The Defy washing machine delivered to me today 21.02.2022 (bought the washing machine on the 18.02.2022)was damaged I called makro about the water marks on The machine, manager told me thats because they had to test if it was working I than told the manager that the exterior of the machine was Also damaged he said oh I can give u a discount of R700 I told him I want my money or a new Machine I asked that they fetch the damaged machine and told him that I'm coming for the new machine or my money. At the shop he said he told me to bring the damaged machine to the shop. I already paid Marko for delivery now they wanted me to pay another person so that I can take their damaged washing machine to their shop. At the shop I was told that they can't give me my money because they don't have the washing machine that they delivered to my house and that I must bring the washing machine to the shop and then I must come get my money. Makro Alberton is the worst place one can buy electrical appliances the short arrogant man wasn't willing to assist me they sold me damaged goods now I must take it back, they even told me I must wait until Wednesday for them to fetch the machine. They don't know the meaning of customer service. Makro is a Joke u advertised on your website that your delivery is free yet another lie, I want my money back I don't want your washing machine!! I don't want to wait till Wednesday u need to fetch ur useless washing machine sies makro is selling dirty appliances????????????????

UNETHICAL WARRANTY PRACTICES
I went to Makro Centurion and bought a R7000 Asus vivobook, 9 MO ths later it refused to turn on and as it is still under warranty I took it in for repairs at the Centurion Makro branch. They said it would take 6 weeks but 12 weeks later I receive an SMS saying I need to approve a quote. I went in to the branch and apparently they said that the motherboard broke and that the warranty doesn't cover it... Which no one told me and no terms and conditions pointed out. The quote for fixing the motherboard was R12, 000. IT'S UNBELIEVABLE!!! They sold me a faulty motherboard and now charge me double the laptop's original price to fix it. The staff were very unhelpful and even if I reject the quote I'm forced to pay a rejection fee... So not even the check up was under warrantee. It's unethical and basically daylight robbery!!! Never trust this branch or even the Makro brand

Inept/Incompetent Online Customer Service
If I could give them 0 stars I would gladly.
Wife ordered 6 chairs round about the 19th December 2021.
On the 23rd December 2021, we received an sms stating the chairs were delivered, even though me and my family were at home the whole day. My wife called in and was advised that the delivery will be made on the 24th as the truck was too full the make the delivery.
On the 24th at around 11am the chairs arrived and were damaged. We were advised to reject the delivery.
On the 29th December 2021 we called game and spoke to Masiphile Magona and we were advised that that he will confirm where the chairs are and process the refund. On the 4th Jan we are told they still need to confirm if the chairs were returned by the courier company. We held on for 40 min while the call center agent was making excuses why we can't speak to a supervisor or manager. Firstly, are we being penalized for poor service from Game and the courier company who is your choice of vendor? Secondly is Game in the business of blocking complaints instead of resolving them? We have only received feedback when calling in, the agents do not provide feedback to the clients.
